BI Engineer

As a BI Engineer, you will hold the most visible position within the analytics team. Analytics is about communication as much as it is science. Conveying the right information at the appropriate level of abstraction to produce the best outcomes is the most important function of this role.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a professional, you will be responsible for delivering business value from the firm's data. Duties include developing loose requirements into concrete deliverables that provide leadership with requisite business signals. The following lists expectations of the role:

  • Produce mock data for the purpose of illustrating reports and dashboards and refining requirements

  • Design wireframes and working models of deliverables to elicit user feedback, so that end products always exceed expectations

  • Develop the dashboards and reports that not only describe past performance, but also provide recommendations regarding future actions

  • Work collaboratively with data architects on data representation and data scientists on predictive models to be incorporated into displays

  • Build the dashboards and reports that internal stakeholders and external clients rely on the make the decisions that produce the best business outcomes

  • Benchmark display metrics and user interaction with an eye toward providing users with valuable and exceptional experiences

  • Collaborate with Business Leaders, IT teams, and individuals throughout the organization to identify opportunities to leverage data to drive improved business decisions

  • Optimize SERV Holdings's business to improve the experience for consumers, partners, and associates

Skills and Abilities

A BI engineer's job is to extract and provide the organizational value from data. The following lists common skills and abilities:

  • Problem Solving: ability to work through problems methodically to arrive at optimal solutions. Independent thinking and a comfort with ambiguous requirements is a must.

  • Programming Skills: knowledge of scripting languages like JavaScript and Python as well as database query languages like SQL, Hive, and Pig.

  • Information Architecture: not every data point is valuable and attention spans are limited. Knowledge of how to structure data that caters to human psychology is valuable.

  • Communication: ability to effectively communicate highly complicated, technical, and detailed findings to end users in all areas of our business.
