Data Architect

As a Data Architect, you will be developing the foundation upon which advanced analytics are built. Demonstrating high performance, in terms of requests per second as well as overall throughput, is an important element of the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a professional, you will be responsible for ingesting, cleansing, and representing data for the analytics team. Duties include establishing conventions and making decisions regarding normalization and calculated data spaces. The following lists expectations of the role:

  • Identify, collect, and leverage internal and external sources of data

  • Process, cleanse, and validate the integrity of data to be used for analysis

  • Establish standards regarding dimensions, facts, views, and calculated data spaces

  • Demonstrate governance for data definitions and dictionaries

  • Understand the tradeoffs and when to deploy data warehouse vs. data lake

  • Expose seamless interfaces between structured and unstructured data

  • Perform additional data processing calculations as needed for efficiency

  • Establish and maintain ETL between primary and secondary systems

  • Transform data into a new format to make it more appropriate for analysis

  • Collaborate with Business Leaders, IT teams, and individuals throughout the organization to identify opportunities to leverage data to drive improved business decisions

  • Optimize SERV Holdings's business to improve the experience for consumers, partners, and associates

Skills and Abilities

A data architect's job is to provide the data used the business intelligence and data science teams. The following lists common skills and abilities:

  • Problem Solving: ability to work through problems methodically to arrive at optimal solutions. Independent thinking and a comfort with ambiguous requirements is a must.

  • Programming Skills: knowledge of scripting languages like JavaScript and Python as well as database query languages like SQL, Hive, and Pig.

  • Data Cleansing: proficiency in handling imperfections in data such. Collaborate with team regarding when to stage raw data versus methods for handling noisy or inconsistent data.

  • Tools: ability to recommend the right tools for any given task and guiding organizational thinking on best practices.

  • Communication: ability to effectively communicate highly complicated, technical, and detailed findings to end users in all areas of our business.
